Mission Statement

In 1596, the former Archbishop of Canterbury John Whitgift, established The Whitgift Foundation in order to 'provide education for the young and care for the elderly'. The Whitgift Foundation is a registered charity based in Croydon.

Our mission in the twenty-first century remains committed to both these central aims; to broaden access to the three Foundation schools of Old Place of John Whitgift (girls), Trinity School (boys, with girls in 6th form) and Whitgift School (boys) for talented young people, particularly through the provision of significant financial assistance, and to promote the range of welfare options and provide high quality care homes and sheltered accommodation to the elderly in the town of Croydon and the surrounding area.

The Whitgift Foundation currently supports approximately 40% of current pupils through financial 'means tested' bursaries. this equates to just over £5million a year to enable talented young people to benefit from the outstanding education provided by the schools. For further information, please contact The Whitgift Foundation or the schools direct.

The Whitgift Foundation has also established The Carers' Information Service as a provider of information, advice, support and training to carers of those who need help due to frailty, illness or disability.
