GCSE results exceed national benchmark grade across The Whitgift Foundation.

This summer’s GCSE results have once again triumphed with impressive grades achieved across The Whitgift Foundation’s three schools located in Croydon.

Leading independent schools Old Palace of John Whitgift, Trinity and Whitgift are celebrating after results greatly exceeded the national benchmark with hundreds of A*/A grades awarded to pupils.

  • Trinity pupils celebrate GCSE success

Students at Trinity School, Croydon had cause for celebration today when they received their GCSE results.

56% of grades awarded were A*s, and 87% of grades were A*/A, both results almost reaching the school’s best, set last year. 98% of grades were A*, A or B.

Out of 127 candidates, particular congratulations go to the 55 students who achieved 7 A*s or better, and the 16 students who got A*s in all their GCSE subjects.

Alasdair Kennedy, Headmaster, Trinity School, said: “Many congratulations to our GCSE cohort of 2017. Their hard work, and that of their teachers, has been rewarded with a very impressive set of results. They have managed to achieve this while maintaining a significant commitment to their wider interests and to the school community, and all of this together means that they can move on to the next stage of their education with great confidence.

  • Old Palace of John Whitgift celebrates outstanding 15% increase in top GCSE grades for 2017

Old Palace is celebrating a superb increase in top grades from 57% A*/A in 2016 to 72% A*/A in 2017. We are equally delighted to announce a splendid 95% at A*/B, another exceptional increase this year.  There have also been some outstanding individual results with Zahra achieving a perfect set of 12 A* grades and Sareena triumphing with 11 A*.

Carol Jewell, Headmistress, Old Palace of John Whitgift School, said: "I am so very proud and privileged to congratulate the girls on a most impressive set of GCSE results. • Outstanding GCSE success at Whitgift

After some superb results from the Whitgift Sixth Form last week, the Year 11 students have followed up with an outstanding set of grades at GCSE and IGCSE. The School is delighted to report an A*/A success rate of 84%.

A total of 51 boys achieved 9 A* grades or better, of which 19 students obtained straight A*s in all their subjects. The strength of the year group as a whole can be seen by the 90 pupils who managed to achieve a straight set of A*/A grades.

The majority of subjects are now examined through the rigorous IGCSE papers, and with many students taking at least 10 GCSEs, these results really highlight the all-round ability of our boys.

The Headmaster and the staff at Whitgift would like to congratulate all boys on their fantastic achievement. The boys can be very proud of these results; they are a testament to their hard-work and dedication.

Supporting the students

The three schools educate more than 3,000 students with nearly half of students supported by one of the largest bursary and scholarship schemes in the UK.

The Whitgift Foundation currently grants more that £5 million a year in bursary support and more than 44% of pupils receive a bursary and/or a scholarship.

This scheme is vital to ensure as many talented young people from different backgrounds across Croydon can attend the Foundation’s schools and receive an outstanding education to help them achieve their potential.

Martin Corney, Chief Executive, The Whitgift Foundation, said: “I would like to congratulate our Year 11 students at the Foundation’s three schools for their hard work and commitment in producing exceptional GCSE and IGCSE results this year. These fantastic results will provide a strong foundation for our students as they continue their academic studies. I wish them every success in their future.”
