Croydon Heritage Day launches with fun and frolics in Croydon Town Centre.
Croydon Heritage Day, sponsored by Croydon BID, took over the town centre on Saturday 18 June. Visitors and shoppers were treated to music and dance performances on stage in front of the Whitgift Centre and free children’s activities in Whitgift Square.
Stalls lined the high street manned by many of Croydon’s charities, community and interest groups such as the Women’s Institute, Croydon Natural History and Science Society, Daniel Spargo-Mabbs Foundation and Ficos’ World, inviting people to learn about what they do and get involved.
Crazy street entertainment from Holmes and Watson amused passers-by while the Balloonatics, created spectacular balloon models to take home.
There were also tours of the Almshouses, iSpy trails, walking tours, talks and workshops to enjoy.
Most of the activity since Saturday has been captured on our social wall to view.
There’s still time to take part in the celebrations as Croydon Heritage Festival continues until Sunday 26 June. For festival listings go to:www.croydonheritagefestival.co.uk or download a digital guide www.croydonheritagefestival.co.uk/croydon-heritage-day
Martin Corney, Chief Executive of the Whitgift Foundation said: Each year we put on the Croydon Heritage Festival, we are astounded at the many new and surprising tales we uncover about Croydon, and the continual commitment and energy of people to take part in it and make it such a success. The Foundation is proud to be part of Croydon’s regeneration as well as its distinguished history – both of which are well worth celebrating.
Matthew Sims, Chief Executive Croydon BID and sponsor of Heritage Day commented: Croydon BID was delighted to sponsor Heritage Day. North End was vibrant – it was brilliant to see so many people enjoying themselves, as well as showcasing some of Croydon’s most talented performers and most interesting charities and societies. A dynamic and busy town centre is important to Croydon’s businesses, residents and visitors and so Croydon BID are thrilled to be part of making that happen for Heritage Day.
The festival, organised by The Whitgift Foundation, began on Saturday 18 June and will be running until Sunday 26 June. The Festival includes talks, workshops, music, drama and walks for all ages. For festival events listings go to: www.croydonheritagefestival.co.uk
