Old Palace Year 11 students live life in the Big Apple in recent cultural trip.

Old Palace’s Year 11 half term trip to New York saw students searching the city for art and culture on the 15 – 20 October 2016. They visited numerous galleries and museums including MoMA, Whitby, Guggenheim and The Met. Also on the agenda were the many famous sites and experiences of life in the Big Apple which meant watching a show on Broadway, riding the metro, strolling through Central Park and visiting Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty.

They also walked a stretch of the Brooklyn Bridge and reached the top of not only the Empire State Building and the Top of the Rock, but also the incredibly poignant and moving 9/11 Memorial and Freedom Tower. Of course, no trip to New York would be complete without a spot of shopping at Macy’s and Bloomingdales and enjoying some of many and varied foods that the City has to offer. As such students sampled award winning cupcakes, ice cream to counteract the October heatwave and various restaurants in China town, Times Square and Little Italy.

“The trip allowed us to expand our horizons and we were able to experience a different culture” Geva, Year 11

“Seeing paintings I’ve previously studied such as Monet’s Water Lilies, was fascinating” Saleha, Year 11
