A victory win for Old Palace students in recent public speaking tournament.

Students from Old Palace School put their skills to the test and gave an exceptional performance at the recent Youth Speaks! public speaking competition. In late November 2016, six students from Old Palace School made their way to Croydon High to compete in the Croydon heat of Rotary International’s Youth Speaks! public speaking competition.

The girls in the Intermediate team were well composed as Eugenie (Chair), Sasha (Main Speaker) and Charlotte (Vote of Thanks) were first to speak and had the audience’s full attention as they posed the question ‘Do the Arts need a standing ovation?’

The Senior team consisting of Disha (Chair), Yasmin (Main Speaker) and Jessica (Vote of Thanks), were also given the opportunity to present their often witty views on the topic ‘Do actions speak louder than words?’.

Following additional presentations from local Croydon schools, it was time for the judging to commence. The standard had been very high this year, so it was with great pleasure both teams won with the Intermediates commended for their confidence, and the Seniors praised for their team work and full engagement with their presentation topic.

This is the third consecutive year that Old Palace has won the Croydon Heat of the competition and the second time that we have been successful at both Intermediate and Senior level. The teams now proceed to the District competition in early 2017.
