Whitgift Care announces new 1596 Club supporting older people with a range of services.
This autumn sees Whitgift Care roll out day services for older people through its 1596 Club. The Club will be run at two of Whitgift Care’s existing homes: Wilhelmina House in Park Hill Rise and Whitgift House, South Croydon.
The two care homes have undergone extensive building works over the spring and summer to extend and improve communal areas enabling each of them to welcome up to 50 extra guests a week. Members of the 1596 Club will be able to enjoy a hot meal and refreshments, participate in daily activities and events and, for those that require it, personal care will also be available and includes hairdressing and chiropody.
As more people choose to live in their own homes for longer, some find that they require additional support and the aim of the 1596 Club is to extend the services currently offered by Whitgift Care to enable them to do so.
The Whitgift Foundation set up the 1596 Club to extend the services it already provides to the residents of Croydon and sees it as a new way to carry out the wishes of its Founder, John Whitgift, to educate the young and care for the elderly. The name of the club is particularly significant as 1596 was the year that work began to build the Almshouses in North End and shows just how long The Whitgift Foundation has been providing care for the people of Croydon.
The 1596 Club opens Monday to Friday for people over 60 and costs £20 per day. For more information on the services or how to join the Club just call 020 8256 1596 or email 1596Club@whitgiftcare.co.uk
Martin Corney, Chief Executive of The Whitgift Foundation said: “Whitgift Care homes are already known for their excellent care and very social and welcoming atmospheres. I am proud to be able to broaden our services further in the Borough by inviting those who choose to remain in their own homes to spend just a day or two with us. They will receive freshly cooked nutritious meals, personal care and a chance to make new friends while taking part in our many events and activities such as arts and crafts, exercise classes, pampering sessions, musical performances, films and computer classes.”
