Two ladies laughing together

Whitgift Care's new Day Care service, the 1596 Club, goes from strength to strength.

Whitgift Care’s welcoming and professional Day Care service, the 1596 Club, offers a home from home experience; helping to relieve loneliness and isolation while supporting older people to maintain their independence.

As more people choose to live in their own homes for longer, some find that they require additional support and the aim of the 1596 Club is to extend the services currently offered by Whitgift Care to enable them to do so.

Having opened its services in 2016, the Club has grown from strength to strength, offering daily activities, hot meals, personal care and even a free trial day.

1596 Club member, Margaret, joined the Club in February 2017 after feeling lonely and jumped at the opportunity to join a social group.

She found out about the 1596 Club when her daughter brought home a flyer from the Carers’ Information Service. The Selsdon local was interested in the lunches and activities held at the Homes so she soon contacted the Club.

Margaret no longer feels lonely as the 1596 Club has brought more people into her life; she talks and meets far more people now than if she was at home. “Before I joined the 1596 Club I would just take my book and sit alone, now I’m in a place to chat and communicate with others and avoid feeling lonely.”

The 1596 Club runs in two of Whitgift Care’s Homes: Wilhelmina House in Park Hill Rise and Whitgift House, South Croydon. The Club runs from Monday to Friday for people over 60 and costs just £20 per day.
