Whitgift School student, Tarriq Roach, started the fencing season on a superb high.
Upper Fifth Former, Tarriq Roach, started the fencing season on a high, competing in the second part of the U17 British fencing ranking series, in Canterbury, on Sunday 25 September. He performed outstandingly and won the competition against 48 competitors from across the UK, moving up into 1st place in the Cadet Epée rankings.
Tarriq had previously competed on the U17 international circuit in February, finishing the season in 118th place, and, in March, represented England in Challenge Wratislavia, a world championship of sorts for U15s, in Poland. Out of 160 fencers, Tarriq won a bronze medal, Whitgift’s first international medal in years.
The official selection for this season’s GB team will be announced this week.
Whitgift’s Head of Fencing, Mr Pavel Rynes, commented, “This is a great start to the season for Tarriq. He had the chance to gain a lot of experience on the international level last year and we hope he will do even better this year.”
