Whitgift Swimming success

Whitgift swimmers performed exceptionally well at three major swimming tournaments.

On Thursday 4 February, 15 Whitgift swimmers travelled to Warwick, for the Warwick Open. There was strong competition from the likes of Harrow, Bedford, Bromsgrove and Cheltenham, to name but a few. The young swimmers performed exceptionally well; winning all three age groups, U18, U16 and U14, and scooping the overall title. A special mention goes to Tanglin Ireland, who broke the 100m breaststroke record: a fantastic achievement.

Head of Swimming and Athletics, Daniel Webb, commented, “A great team performance overall, with every swim counting towards the team total.  I was delighted to see the swimmers really pushing themselves, reaching several personal bests and racing right to the end.  With many swimmers competing at higher level age groups, it was great to see that, despite injuries, we really do have a strong squad.”

More swimming celebrations were to be had when the U13 and U12 squads won the Trinity Group Gala, the previous week, beating off competition from seven other schools.  The U13s won every race and relay, which is an impressive result of which they can be immensely proud.

The U12 and U13 squads have also qualified through two rounds for the U13/U12 London Independent School Grand Final, which takes place after Half Term. We also look forward to the Bath Cup and Otter Medley, in March.
