A guide to our schools’ seasonal performances with theatre and music at great venues.

It’s December, which means Christmas is imminent along with all the festivities it brings. In the run up to the end of term, Whitgift, Trinity and Old Palace are holding a number of performances open to the public. We’ve listed them below so simply click the links to book tickets, perfect for a seasonal evening out.
 

Whitgift

Christmas Concert at St George’s, Hanover Square
Friday 12 December, 6:30pm
Tickets: £10 / Concessions: £5

The Whitgift Choristers and Whitgift Chamber Choir invite you to a special evening of seasonal music in the heart of Mayfair. As well as traditional carols for choir and organ, this concert will also feature the Whitgift Senior String Orchestra performing Handel’s Organ Concerto in B flat Major under the direction of Mr Philip Winter, together with Mr Ronny Krippner on the church’s brand-new organ.

Carol Service at Croydon Minster
Tuesday 16 December, 7:30pm
Tickets: FREE (by reservation only)

Held in the historic Croydon Minster, the favourite summer residence of our founder, John Whitgift, this magnificent service marks the end of the Michaelmas Term, and is a true highlight of the choral music calendar. Based on the traditional Nine Lessons and Carols, it will feature readings, anthems, and carols, sung by the Whitgift Choristers and the Whitgift Chamber Choir, ably supported by the Whitgift Senior Brass.

The Sound of Music (with Old Palace)
Tuesday 16 December – Thursday 18 December, 7:00pm
Tickets: £6 / Students £4

Following the success of last year’s production of West Side Story, students from Old Palace and Whitgift have been busy rehearsing The Sound of Music, which will be performed in the Banqueting Hall at Old Palace School on 16-18 December, featuring a cast of more than 40 students accompanied by Old Palace Senior Orchestra.

The true story of Maria the postulant, the musical von Trapp family and their escape from Nazi-occupied Austria features a string of famous songs including “Do-Re-Mi”, “My Favourite Things”, “Sixteen Going on Seventeen” and “Climb Every Mountain”.

Trinity

The Nativity by David Farr
Wednesday 10 December – Friday 12 December, 7:30pm
Tickets: £6 / Children £3 / Trinity students go free

David Farr’s The Nativity tells the story of ordinary people in extraordinary times. Set in a broken-down graffiti covered world, where Roman Soldiers terrify the populace who work hard to survive, Joseph – a simple carpenter – meets and falls in love with a beautiful young village girl, Mary. The story tells of their journey to Bethlehem and the people they meet, and it is told through a combination of animation, live action, film, dance and giant puppetry.

Christmas Jazz Evening
Tuesday 16 December, 6:30pm
Tickets: £13 / Children £8

Join us for an evening of dinner, jazz and dancing on Tuesday 16th December.  Groups performing will include Big Band, Almost Big Band, Junior Jazz, Girls’ Choir, Close Harmony and others. There are a limited number of tickets so book early!
 

Old Palace
