The Croydon Heritage Festival, a two week celebration of Croydon’s rich past, as well as its exciting future, is back for a second year running this summer.

Taking place for two weeks from Saturday 21 June to Friday 4 July 2014, Croydon Heritage Festival will be packed full of talks, tours, exhibitions, music, art and performance to showcase the Borough’s unique heritage.

The Festival is organised by The Whitgift Foundation, one of Croydon’s oldest charities, and is supported by a host of local organisations. Together we are aiming to bring alive Croydon’s fascinating past at a time of unprecedented change for the town.

Following a major town centre event to kick start the Festival on Saturday 21 June, you  will be invited to tour some of the most important buildings in Croydon’s history including the Tramlink depot, Croydon Airport, Old Palace, Croydon Minster and the Whitgift Almshouses; and visit a heritage exhibition supported by local community and historical organisations held in the Fairfield Halls for the duration of the Festival.

There will be a programme of talks and workshops on all aspects of Croydon’s past, present and future such as on the River Wandle and Croydon Advertiser and daily walking tours led by Croydon Tours encompassing sites from Old Town, South End to Broad Green.

Martin Corney, Chief Executive to The Whitgift Foundation, said: "We are delighted to be organising the Croydon Heritage Festival for a second year running. We want to build on the success of last year’s event and provide a Festival that the Croydon community can be proud of.

“As a charity that was established in Croydon more than 400 years ago, The Whitgift Foundation is not only passionate about the town’s fascinating heritage, we are committed to supporting the future success of the town."

We are currently looking for local schools, community groups and organisations to help celebrate Croydon’s unique heritage and get involved in this year’s Festival.
