Planning application to improve Whitgift Centre entrance.
Croydon Partnership, the joint venture between Westfield and Hammerson set up to redevelop the town’s retail centre, has submitted a planning application to create an enhanced pedestrian entrance to the Whitgift shopping centre from North End.
The London Borough of Croydon granted planning permission to the Croydon Partnership’s outline planning application for the re-development of the Whitgift Centre in February 2014. Since then, the Partnership has been working hard on the land assembly process to ready the scheme for development and progressing plans to improve existing public areas adjacent to the development.
This specific planning application is an important part of this process and is part of the Croydon Partnership’s long term vision of the retail centre. It provides for an enhanced pedestrian access to the new Whitgift Centre by proposing the redevelopment of 96-98 North End (currently Thomas Cook), together with the existing Chapel Walk to create a new, wider, significantly improved entrance point from North End.

This planning application represents another stepping stone in the right direction towards restoring Croydon to its position as South London’s leading retail and leisure destination.”
