Old Palace Choir wins first place in U18 choral category of the Sutton Music Festival.
Many congratulations to the talented Old Palace Senior School musicians in Chamber Choir who followed on from the Preparatory School’s winning streak by coming first in the Under 18 choral category at the Sutton Music Festival last Friday evening. Not only did they win the Senior School Challenge Shield but their performance also earnt them the Borough Challenge Shield for the highest mark awarded to any choir over the whole of the Festival. Adjudicator, Peter Gritton, remarked on the touching and moving performance of Birdsong (by Paul Read) and particularly commended Year 11 student, Maria, who conducted the performance of this piece. The second piece was Bob Chilcott’s atmospheric Song of the Stars – a challenging a cappella piece that splits into seven parts. Mr Gritton was particularly impressed by the confidence shown by the choir and the mesmerising effect from the very start.
