Old Palace students take part in The Queen’s Gardens Collaborative Project.
Old Palace Year 10 DT girls are working with Kaizen, a local community based organisation, on the redevelopment of The Queen’s Gardens, as part of the wider rejuvenation project of Croydon.
This is a very exciting live project with Year 10 DT students having already attended two Saturday workshops in which they have met many members of the community as well as the developers, architects and landscape designers. Students in the last session were brainstorming actual design ideas for the three main areas of the new site; an indoor and outdoor café, a play area for young children and the landscaped gardens.
Kaizen have been very impressed with the Old Palace students to date and are delighted that they are involved and represent young people in the community. The work carried out will benefit towards their preparation for their GCSE coursework at the beginning of Year 11.
The students have been invited to break up the first part of the ground when the building work begins, which the girls are already looking forward to.
One Old Palace student, Shanjana, 10H commented: “I look forward to attending the future workshops and seeing the progression we have made so far.”
