Old Palace students perform at Croydon Minster’s lunchtime recital special.

Several students from Old Palace took part in a highly enjoyable lunchtime recital at Croydon Minster last month. These recitals happen on a weekly basis and are open to all members of the public.

Cecilia in Year 10 started the recital with two wonderful performances on the Cello. She played Faure’s Elegie and Squire’s Tarantella with the sort of poise and technical ability usually demonstrated by musicians far beyond her years.

A further two AS level music students, Maryam and Carol, played a selection of piano pieces. Maryam played a beautiful rendition of Across the Stars by John Williams - a haunting theme from the Star Wars films - and Carol played Chopin Nocturne Op 72 No. 1 with great musicality.

Finally Old Palace’s two Year 13 students, Maria and Catherine, sung and played a number of pieces. Catherine entertained the audience with “If I loved you” from Carousel and Maria played Chopin’s Waltz in B minor before the pair joined forces to sing two sumptuous vocal duets - Offenbach’s Barcarolle, and Delibes’ Flower Duet.

The recital was very well received by all members of the audience and congratulations go to all the performers with special thanks to the teachers that supported them.

The next lunchtime recital at the Croydon Minster will take place on Friday 24 November. For further information, please visit www.croydonminster.co.uk
