Trinity year 13 athletes made their mark on the international stage with strong performances in their respective sports.
Over the summer, Gabriel (17 years old) was selected for the England Rugby U18 side, where the team travelled to South Africa for a tour that saw them play three matches. Gabriel started in the number 11 jersey in one match, coming off the bench in two others with England winning two of their three matches. Following this International experience, Gabriel then featured on Sky Sports during the finals days of the Premiership Rugby Sevens Series in August where he was selected to represent the Harlequins men’s team.
Gabriel’s Rugby Coach at Trinity, Director of Rugby Aaron Liffchak said: “Gabriel has been working incredibly hard this year on all areas of his game, he is fast becoming a very accomplished player, with the maturity to recognise his strengths as well as his weaknesses. This matched with top class work ethic is helping him get to the top of his game. We are incredibly proud of Gabriel, not just for what he has achieved but for his drive and direction.”
Imani (above: 17 years old) has also featured on Sky sport over the summer, reaching the final in the 100m individual European Junior Championships held in Sweden, where she placed 5th in Europe. Imani ran the anchor leg for the 4x 100m Great Britain Junior relay team that finished in first place, taking home a gold medal. Back on home soil she then went on to qualify for the 100m final of the British Senior Championships, making her one of the 8th fastest women in the country, an outstanding achievement for a 17 year old.
Imani, who trains with an Olympic standard group at Lee Valley, has proved she is one to watch in the future, saying: “I'm always inspired to work harder and set no limits to what I can achieve”. When asked about her goals for the next 12 months, she said: “This year it is my primary aim to make the team for my second World Junior Championships, held in Russia. It would be incredible to come back with an individual medal! Beyond that my dream is to be picked for the Rio Olympics relay team.”
The closing date for applications to Trinity School for entry in September 2016 at 10+, 11+ and 13+ is on 30th November 2015.
