Trinity School rugby team through to the semi-finals of the School Sports Magazine National Cup.
Trinity School’s Under 13A rugby team have progressed to the semi-finals of the School Sports Magazine National Cup after a win against Whitgift.
The match was played at Trinity, with the home team scoring a converted try in the opening minutes to give an early 7-0 lead. Despite a strong Whitgift side having a good deal of possession, Trinity scored another converted try, along with a penalty, to finish the first half with a 17-0 lead.
The second half saw Trinity facing an uphill battle as they played into the wind, but the team defended well against strong periods of attack from Whitgift. Another converted try from Trinity with 15 minutes to go concluded the scoring for the match, with Trinity winning 24-0.
Coach of Trinity U13A team, Richard Risebro, said: “I’m very proud of the way the boys performed, and I am really looking forward to the game next week against Hampton, it should be a great match.”
The Trinity team have high expectations in this year’s national cup, as just last year they were runners-up of the tournament after losing to Warwick in the last play of the final.
Trinity will now meet Hampton School in the semi-finals to be played on Monday 8th February.
