Whitgift students experience some first-hand Andy Warhol pieces in recent visit.

Whitgift Upper First Formers were lucky enough to experience some first-hand Andy Warhol pieces, in their Art class earlier this week, to complement their Pop Art studies. A Whitgift parent kindly brought in several pieces from Warhol’s Campbell’s Soup range to enhance the boys’ studies.

The pieces, dating from the 1960s, were a dress (known as a ‘Souper Dress’) and a pair of oven gloves, inspired by the artist’s iconic design style, which blurs the lines between fine art and everyday items. With few remaining in such good condition, one would have to visit London’s Victoria and Albert Museum or the MoMA in New York, to see a ‘Souper Dress’. The oven gloves are even rarer.

The boys were able to study the pieces up close and enthusiastically asked questions. Many thanks to the owner for kindly sharing her art for the afternoon.
