Sporting success as student and coach climb rankings with impressive international event wins.

It has been a busy few weeks for the Whitgift School Judo Club. Upper Fifth Former, David Saran, was placed 5th in the Cadet U60kg category at the Welsh Open International Championships in Cardiff at the beginning of November.  He then won bronze in the same category at the Southern Area Cadet Open in Surrey. Both events count towards the ranking for the British Championships and David is now placed in the top six in the British ranking in his age group.

In the senior event of the Welsh Open, Whitgift Judo coach, Ms Szandra Szogedi (pictured), won the women’s U63kg event. A few days later Ms Szogedi took a further gold medal in Mauritius, competing at the African Open Championships, which is one of the qualification events leading up towards the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. Winning this title means that Szogedi is now ranked in the top 20 worldwide and a step closer to qualifying for the Games.
