Talented Whitgift student appears in BBC’s new moving drama series War and Peace.
Upper First Form student, Kit Connor at Whitgift School, is currently appearing in the BBC’s adaptation of Leo Tolstoy’s novel War and Peace. The first episode (of six) aired on 3 January, and was watched by more than six million viewers, receiving rave reviews. Kit won the role after a rigorous audition in London, where he was up against more than 100 hopeful young actors. Filming took place over the course of six months, in chilly temperatures, in St Petersburg, Russia, and in Lithuania, but Kit assures us that the beautiful period costumes were carefully handmade to be insulated, so none of the actors felt the cold!
Kit appears alongside household names: Ade Edmondson (playing his father); Gillian Anderson (playing his mother); and Lily James (as his sister). He said of the experience, “I’m really glad I got the opportunity to be a part of this drama and to work with some fantastic people; we bonded like a true family.”
Kit is only 11 years old, but already has some impressive credits to his name, including Get Santa (2014) and Mr Holmes (2015). Whitgift saw Kit take to the stage as Emil, in Emil and the Detectives, as part of the First Form Plays, in November last year. Outside of school, he likes to write his own material and hopes to direct his own screenplay one day. Kit is currently rehearsing for a new play, Welcome Home Captain Fox!, opening at the Donmar Theatre, on 18 February. We wish him every success, and look forward to seeing him in future Whitgift productions.
