Alumni organisation restructured.

Earlier this year the Old Whitgiftian Association restructured to form the Whitgiftian Association and the Whitgift Sports Club. Below, we explain the reasons for the change and run through the new benefits on offer.

The Whitgiftian Association (WA) is going from strength-to-strength following a re-structure in early 2013. Previously, the Old Whitgiftian Association provided opportunities for Whitgift School alumni, or Old Whitgiftians (OWs), across the generations to play sport, meet and drink at a clubhouse on Croham Road. However, with the acceptance of non-Old Whitgiftian playing members at the Sports Club, it was necessary to separate the alumni association and the sports club.

Therefore, the Whitgiftian Association and Whitgift Sports Club were born and although they remain close siblings, they function as independent organisations. Now based at Whitgift School, the Whitgiftian Association has a new website, organises many social and reunion events and is connecting with more recent School leavers through the modern wonders of social media, in particular Facebook and Twitter.

Recent highlights on the events calendar have included the Vice Presidents’ Dinner; a wine tasting evening; an evening of Christmas shopping at House of Fraser; a day out at Henley Regatta; the annual Sportsman’s Lunch as well as many year group reunions.

For a small annual fee, OWs are able to take advantage of a number of membership benefits including discounts on WA events, OW merchandise, bar purchases at the Whitgift Sports Club, as well as exclusive deals on tickets to West End shows and much more.

If you - or anyone you know - is an Old Whitgiftian, please find out more by visiting the WA website. Vicky and Donna in the WA Office welcome your enquiries and are happy to arrange tours of the school for OWs. Please call 020 8633 9926 or email office@whitgiftianassociation.co.uk.

The Whitgift Sports Club is also making spectacular progress with the recent refurbishment of the main hall at the Clubhouse, now re-named The Gerry Bowthorpe Room in honour of this distinguished and remarkable OW.  The project was entirely funded by proceeds from the Gerry Bowthorpe Appeal and The English Rugby Football Union.
