Change of Head at Old Palace

Thursday 9 June 2011

As a result of this restructuring process and following discussions with the Governors, Dr Judy Harris agreed that the situation presented her with a unique opportunity to pursue her career aspirations in education, having developed the school over the last six years.  After much consideration it was agreed with the Governors that Dr Harris would step down from the Headship of Old Palace with immediate effect in order to minimise disruption at the beginning of the next school year.  Dr Harris wishes all at the school the very best for the future.  The Governors and staff have paid tribute to Dr Harris’s tireless energy and commitment to the school over recent years.

The Governors have announced the immediate appointment of Mrs Carol Jewell as Acting Head of Old Palace of John Whitgift School.  Mrs Jewell is well known by the whole Old Palace community as a highly-experienced and well-respected deputy head teacher and member of the existing management team.  Mrs Jewell very much looks forward to her new appointment and has stated to parents: “What impressed me most when I joined Old Palace 14 years ago, was the commitment of the staff and this is as true today as it was all those years ago”.

The Whitgift Foundation is very proud of Old Palace and believes that the school is well placed in its unique historic setting, well-resourced and with the continuing strong backing from the Whitgift Foundation, is well-established to face the educational challenges of the future.
