Trinity School’s Charity Fundraiser with Tim Vine raises over £16,000 for Hope4Malawi.
A fundraising evening with stand-up comedian Tim Vine, hosted at Trinity School, Croydon, raised over £16,000 for charity Hope4Malawi.
Full of quick-witted puns, songs and even Tim Vine’s own chat show with members of the audience, the evening was held to raise funds for a new secondary school in Chipwepwete, Malawi.
Hope4Malawi aims to give children in Malawi a better education so they have a sustainable way to escape the poverty trap and develop skills and opportunities to enable them to have improved standards of living. The charity also helps children in UK schools connect with children in Malawi and gives those students an opportunity to make a tangible difference.
Trinity School has supported the charity over a number of years through fundraising and volunteering. In particular, Trinity has a commitment to provide lunch daily for every child at Chipwepwete, and has broadened its support with a book project to furnish a newly built library at the school.
The project reached a landmark in July 2016 with the School’s first team of students and staff travelling to Blantyre to work in community projects surrounding Chipwepwete School. The next cohort of volunteers leaves for this year’s trip in July.
Hope4Malawi co-founder Sara Goodman, said “What an incredible evening. Thank you to Trinity school and staff for hosting such a great event. We continue to be overwhelmed by the generosity of the school and to parents and pupils giving children in Malawi hope of a better future by giving both time and resources. Thank you everyone.”
Trinity Headmaster, Alasdair Kennedy, said “We are committed to playing an active role in our wider community and enabling our pupils to help others. We are delighted to have been able to host such a wonderful evening for a cause so close to our hearts.”
