A carer looks after a friend, family member, partner or neighbour who needs support due to illness, disability or old age. Around 33,000 people in Croydon are carers - just under 10% of the population.
In 1997, we broadened our charitable mission to provide support for unpaid carers in Croydon through the funding of the Carers Information Service. The Carers Information Service provides information, advice, support, advocacy, workshops and a Health and Wellbeing Service for carers in Croydon.
In 2013, we teamed up with Croydon Council to open the Carers Support Centre, a drop-in advice and support centre for carers in central Croydon. The Centre opened in September 2013 and is led by the Carers Information Service, offering a diverse range of free activities and services for unpaid carers of all ages.
