Capturing Croydon judging panel selects six prize winners
The Whitgift Foundation was delighted to welcome the judging panel to the official judges meeting of its Capturing Croydon photography competition on Thursday 6th June.
Brand new for 2019, Capturing Croydon is a borough wide photography competition bringing together year 6 pupils from six local primary schools in Croydon. Following a series of one-day photography workshops, images submitted by the participating schools were shortlisted to include the top five photographs from each school.
Hosted in the historic Whitgift Almshouses where each of the competition’s workshops began, the panel of judges were invited to the meeting to review the 30 shortlisted images and select the final six prize winners.
The judging panel consisted of:
- Jo Negrini, CEO of Croydon Council
- Steve Yewman, Development Director, Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield
- Martin Corney, Chief Executive of The Whitgift Foundation
- Richard Chivers, award-winning architectural photographer
- Dr Paula Owens, BBC geography advisor and Canterbury University Research Fellow
The images were subject to specific judging criteria, and the final six prize winners were selected comprising of the following:
- One overall winner
- Five runners-up, one for each of the following categories:
- Old and new
- Nature and manmade
- Mood and emotion
In a special awards ceremony taking place at Old Palace of John Whitgift School on 3rd July, the prize winners will be announced and presented with top photography prizes.
Capturing Croydon is led by The Whitgift Foundation and sponsored by the Croydon Partnership, the joint venture between Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield and Hammerson set to transform Croydon’s two main shopping centres Whitgift and Centrale into a world class retail and leisure destination.
