Whitgift Chamber Choir performed classical Christmas carols at The Ritz London.
On Saturday 5 December, the Whitgift Chamber Choir made their debut visit to The Ritz London to perform Christmas carols. The hotel is famous for being the epitome of English luxury, and, for a limited time before Christmas, they provide a professional choir to sing carols during their sought-after afternoon teas. By special invitation, the Whitgift Choristers replaced The Ritz Choir and performed a selection of carols. The Choristers, joined by the School’s resident Choral Scholars, performed in their new red choir robes, which perfectly complemented the festively-decorated hotel.
The repertoire chosen ranged from classics, such as Once in Royal David’s City, to more contemporary arrangements of Winter Wonderland and Ding Dong! Merrily on High. As the hotel aims to provide exceptional service, the boys were under a lot of pressure to perform superbly. Although tired from a busy and demanding term, they ‘pulled out all the stops’ and, true to form, were utterly professional. The choristers are to be congratulated for such an outstanding achievement. Singing at The Ritz also has its perks; the boys and men were looked after incredibly well - there was never a shortage of hot chocolate, sandwiches or cakes!
