Whitgift School Lower Fifth Former fencer

Whitgift student to represent Great Britain at the European fencing Championships.

Congratulations are due to Lower Fifth Former, Tarriq Roach, who has been selected to represent Great Britain in épée at the U17 European Championships. Only four fencers in Britain are chosen for this tournament, due to take place in Novi Sad, Serbia, between 29 February and 4 March this year.

Whitgift’s Head of Fencing, Mr Pavel Rynes, commented, “This is a terrific achievement considering he has got two more years in the U17 age group, plus he will be competing in the individual category, as well as in the team event.”

Mr Keith Smith, former head of Whitgift fencing and Olympic fencing referee, also commented, “This is great news for Tarriq. To be selected for the Great Britain team for the European Championships is a real honour.”
