Whitgift's fantastic rugby season sees the U15s and U18s through to national rugby semi-finals.

Whitgift is having a fantastic rugby season, with anticipation mounting in the Schools Cup competition; both the U15 and U18 sides have reached the national semi-finals.

The U15s are a particular strong side who, have only lost one match the whole season. They faced St Joseph’s College away in Ipswich, last week, for the quarter-final, winning with a resounding 69-12. Mr Adrian Norris, Assistant Head and U15 Coach, commented, “The strong ball-carrying of the forwards laid the foundation for the overall performance. The whole team should be really proud of the way they played.”

The U18s have been steadfast in their Cup campaign, with much strong competition along the way. They have had to do much travelling, with only the first round match against Langley Park School for Boys being a home match. Just like the U15s, they have defeated KCS Wimbledon, Felsted School and Hampton School along the way. Their 48-15 win against Bishop Wordsworth’s School, back in December, saw them through to the national semi-finals.

Both semi-final matches are due to take place at Allianz Park, home of Saracens RFC, in March. The U18s will be pitted against Warwick School, on Saturday 3 March at 5pm, and the U15s will face Hampton the following day at 3.45pm.

Mr Chris Wilkins, Director of Rugby, commented, “It has been great to see how both the U15s and 1st XV have developed and improved during the course of the season. Everyone is very much looking forward to the semi-final weekend. There is still a lot of work to be done as we are well aware that Hampton and Warwick are two tough sides.”
